In summer 2021 I was asked by Rich Mix to create a series of videos promoting Petticoat Lane’s famous African fabric shops for London Borough of Tower Hamlets. Their objective was to encourage people to visit and return to the local fabric shops on Wentworth Street, Middlesex Street and the Lady Lane traders of the Petticoat Lane area.

As curator and project manager, my role involved working closely with the borough’s markets team to meet the business owners and devise a series of videos to reflect the unique history and culture of Petticoat Lane’s fabric shops. Working with a videographer, I created the concept, filming brief and interview questions for the business owners. I interviewed 15 individuals for the project, with the footage creating three themed videos shared widely across Tower Hamlets’ social media channels and websites. As project manager, I was also in charge of gaining the necessary permits and permissions to film in a busy London street (including 12 dancers who performed live on the day - pictured), risk assessments and running order for the multiple days of filming. During the editing process, I oversaw multiple feedback rounds between Tower Hamlets and Rich Mix, ensuring the videos aligned to both organisation’s brand personality and tone of voice. This was a very rewarding project to be a part of, especially sharing the stories of business owners who make up such a fascinating area in east London.
